Materials Currently Used by the Company
The materials used by our company are selected based on requirements such as durability, stability, recyclability, and environmental impact.
They are primarily drawn from material groups that have long been used in automotive tires, while also incorporating materials that have been newly put into practical use, within the range where consistency in implementation can be maintained.
Material Categories
- Rubber materials (natural rubber and synthetic rubber)
- Reinforcing and filler materials
- Vulcanization and crosslinking materials
- Anti aging and durability adjustment materials
- Processing and dispersion adjustment materials
- Adhesion and interfacial adjustment materials
- Structural components (cords, fibers, wires, etc.)
- Other minor additive materials
About LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)
Environmental performance in this business is evaluated using the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Greenhouse gas emissions (expressed as CO₂ equivalents) are calculated in accordance with the “LCCO₂ Calculation Guidelines for Tires” published by the Japan Automobile Tire Manufacturers Association.
Scope of Evaluation
The following life cycle stages are included:
Raw material procurement (production and transportation)
Production
Distribution
Use phase (including fuel economy impact during driving)
Disposal and recycling (including transportation, heat recovery, etc.)
Calculation methods, emission factors, and assumptions are based on the referenced guidelines and official data sources
Functional Unit
The functional unit for the evaluation is one passenger car tire. For comparative assessments, the same size, identical usage conditions, and equivalent tire life are assumed. When appropriate, results may be converted to emissions per unit of distance traveled.
Purpose of the LCA
This LCA is intended to quantitatively understand product environmental performance and inform material selection and design decisions. It is not intended to guarantee compliance with specific environmental labeling or regulatory requirements. Results may vary depending on assumptions and scope. Detailed methods and results are described in separate technical documents.
Reference Standards and Documents
The following standards and documents are referenced in the evaluation:
Road Vehicle Safety Regulations
UNECE Regulations
JIS K Standards (Rubber and Rubber Products)
ISO 14040 (Principles and Framework for LCA)
ISO 14044 (Requirements and Guidelines for LCA)
ISO 22628 (Automotive Recyclability and Recoverability)
