Participates in the 70th Lignin Symposium Exploring the potential of lignin materials for tire application

November 8, 2025

In October 2025, we participated in and exhibited at the “70th Lignin Symposium (7th Annual Meeting of the Lignin Society)” held at Mie University.

Lignin Symposium

This conference serves as a specialized forum where researchers, technical developers, and companies from industry, academia, and government gather to present and share the latest research findings on lignin. Topics such as lignin structure, modification, and application development were addressed, and the potential for material innovation using biomass resources as feedstock was discussed.

Booth Exhibition

LIPPER exhibited at the event and engaged in technical discussions and exchanges with stakeholders to explore the potential application of lignin materials in tires. Specifically, the focus was on the following areas:

  • Physical property evaluation of lignin-containing bio-based fillers/matrix materials
  • Material substitution contributing to reduced environmental impact (manufacturing stage/use stage/disposal stage) and microplastic reduction
  • Discussions on the feasibility of launching industry-academia collaborative demonstration projects and establishing mass production schemes

Through this participation, LIPPER reaffirmed its policy to accelerate the development of “natural color tires” and “circular tires” by placing lignin at the center of its material strategy.

70th Lignin Symposium (7th Annual Meeting of the Lignin Society) Overview

Name: The 70th Lignin Symposium (The Lignin Society of Japan 7th Annual Meeting)
Date: Thursday, November 6, 2025 – Friday, November 7, 2025
Venue: Mie University Sansui Hall (Tsu City, Mie Prefecture)
Organizer: The Lignin Society of Japan
Official Website: https://www.lignin-society.jp/symposium/70

Purpose and Overview

The Lignin Symposium is Japan’s leading academic conference on lignin research, providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of a wide range of research results, from basic to applied, including structural analysis, chemical modification, and application development of lignin.

This symposium brings together representatives from universities, research institutions, companies, and government agencies to explore new possibilities for lignin and lignin-related biomass materials. It introduces research trends toward the development of new materials utilizing biomass resources and the realization of green chemistry and a carbon-neutral society.

Main Theme Examples

  • Structural Analysis and Modification Technology of Lignin
  • Development of Lignin Derivatives and Composite Materials
  • Biomass Conversion and Lignin Purification Processes
  • Applications in Environmental and Energy Fields (Carbon Materials, Polymers, etc.)
  • Prospects for Lignin Utilization Toward Sustainable Material and Product Design

We will continue to advance research and development of biomaterials, including lignin, and promote their application in mobility materials.
